چکیده

The importance of pyrimidine nucleus in the metabolism of neurone is well recognised. Several compounds which are intimately concerned wrth the essential life processes of the neurones such as vitamins, coenzymes and both RNA and DNA of the mitochondria and of the nuclei contain pyrimidine moiety. It is not surprising that quite a large number of central nervous system depressants are derived from this ring system. It has been shown (12,20) amongst quinazolones studied that certain 3-aryl-6-alkyl possessed central nervous system depressant action. It was found (4) that compound 3-phenyl-quinazol-4-one was equal to acetylsalicylic acid as far a. antipyretic action in febrile rats was concerned. Quinazol-4-ones have been found to have potent hypnotic (9,8), antipyretic and hypothermic (14) anticonvulsant and antiepileptic (10, I and 13) properties.

Correlation between selective inhibition of NAD-dependent oxidations and anticonvulsant property of quinazolone allylethers and quinazolone allyphenols.

Inhibition of certain metabolic processes has been shown to be the property of various central nervous system depressants (1, 2) and a parallelism exists between in vitro and in vivo effects. Furthermore, the structure activity relationship of various psychopharma cological agents has been shown to be due to their interaction with receptor surfaces (3). Amongst 2,3-disubstituted quinazolones po...
